Questions

Why is my PNG so much bigger than the JPG?

PNG keeps every pixel exactly, while JPG throws away detail you hardly see. A photo saved as PNG is often several times bigger. For small photos, choose WebP or JPG.

Will converting to PNG give my picture a see-through background?

No. PNG can store see-through parts, but converting doesn't remove the background; the picture stays as it is. To cut the people out of a photo, use the photo editor's Background tool and choose See-through, then save as PNG; see remove the background from a photo.

Can I open iPhone HEIC photos?

Not yet. To get JPG photos from an iPhone, set Settings › Camera › Formats to Most Compatible.

Do all apps open WebP?

All current web browsers do, and most photo apps. If a site or app refuses it, use JPG. Saving as WebP needs a browser that can make it, such as Chrome or Edge; in others the WebP button is greyed out.
