Extract Frames from a Video

Save the exact moment you want as a picture, or a whole series of pictures from a part of your video. They are made in your browser at the video's full size, and your video stays on your device.

How to Extract Frames from a Video

  1. Open your video in the video editor. MP4, MOV and WebM work.
  2. Choose the Snapshot tool on the left and pick a Format: PNG, JPG or WebP.
  3. For one picture, move the playhead to the moment you want and press Save this frame.
  4. For many, select a part on the timeline (or nothing, for the whole video). Under Pictures, choose One every few seconds, or Spread evenly and how many. Then press Save ZIP.

Questions

Which format should I choose?

PNG keeps every pixel exactly but makes bigger files. JPG is much smaller and fine for photos and thumbnails. WebP is smaller still, and most apps and websites take it.

Are my edits in the pictures?

Yes. Each picture looks like that moment of the saved video: cropped and turned, with its filter, text, logo and burned-in subtitles.

How many pictures can I save at once?

Up to 300, and fewer for big videos so they fit in your device's memory: about 200 from a 1080p video and 48 from a 4K one, or 38 at 1080p on a phone. The tool tells you before you save.

What are the pictures called?

After the video and the moment they show, so they sort in order: "holiday-frame-1m05.000s.jpg" is the picture at 1 minute 5 seconds.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The pictures are made in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
